Tony's Interceptor USA Camaro
This 1973 Camaro based MFP-USA Interceptor is one of the hottest Mad Max theme vehicles we have seen. It wears many Mad Max Cars supplied parts, and is also truly a work of art Visually and Mechanically. Tony recently wrote to MMC, letting us in on the "Backstory" of this USA Mad Max replica Star, and some of the awesome specs.
Here is wehat he had to say:
"My Mad Max story began in april of 1982 when my 2 friends brought me to see The Roadwarrior and they said, "thats you". Since that day, thats how I've been known. I think I may be the longest tenured "maxxer" actually being the american max.
In 1986 I created my 1st "USA Interceptor" using a 1970 Camaro painted in interceptor colors (Yellow, Red, Blue & White) but without the lights and roof spoiler. In 1989 I created my 2nd USA Interceptor using an 1984 pro street Mustang GT with interceptor colors and working lights (Pictured).
In 2007 I found a bodyman in NC that was a huge Mad Max fan and he agreed to do the latest car for me. It started with a rusted out 73 camaro (see the Before Photo). The car got new inner and outer quarters, pans, and sail panel. We added a custom 3 scoop hood, custom roof spoiler, movie correct working lights and matching siren, badges and lettering. The front frame was removed, blasted, and painted with all new parts. Also added were new interior, chrome wagon wheels, and a pypes polished stainless exhaust that eerily sounds exactly like max's car. As for the powertrain, it has a 454 w/Barry Grant Tri-Power (est 550 hp), a manual reverse turbo 400 and a 3:42 10 bolt posi. This is the car I wished I could build in 1986.
THE CAR WAS STARTED IN OCT OF 2007 AND FINISHED IN JULY OF 2009.
I am the AMERICAN MAX."
This vehicle was officially presented to the Mad Max public for "in person viewing", at the Roadwar Weekend Event 2009 (see the events page). While there it was auotgraphed by Vernon Wells ("Wez") and Virginia Hey ("Warrior Woman") from Mad Max2 (The Roadwarrior). We understand that Tony drove it across the USA to attend the event, and made another "sweeping patrol" of the American highways on the way back home. What an awesome ride that must have been!
